Sweden’s Halland region extends KOHA library system

Thư viện vùng đang giữ một blog chi tiết hóa tiến trình của nó hướng tới KOHA. Vào tháng 4, nó đã báo cáo về những nỗ lực chuyển đổi. The Regionbibliotek Halland (Halland regional library) in the eponymous region in Sweden is developing features for KOHA, the open source library management system, to meet the needs of Sweden’s public libraries. Halland’s regional library switched to using KOHA earlier this year.
In March the regional library posted a first job vacancy for a first HOHA developer, and in May the library announced it had received a grant of SEK one million (about EUR 100,000) from the National Library of Sweden. “Now we have three developers, and still have money left over”, tweeted KOHA Development Manager Viktor Sarge.
The grant will also be used to hire external ICT service suppliers to help with the KOHA development. The Regionbibliotek is working together with the Royal Library and Stockholm’s University Library.
The Regionbibliotek is keeping a blog detailing its progress towards KOHA. In April, it reported on the migration efforts. There is a learning-curve for the new system, but for the actual migration, the library was able to reuse migration scripts, also made available as open source.
On 17 September, Viktor Sarge will be talking about the use of KOHA at Halland’s regional library. That presentation is part of the Autumn Meeting of Kivos, a network of Swedish municipalities promoting the use of free and open source software and open standards.
